With spring come flowers. There’s the ever popular Lilacs to view in the city but not many people know of the Blue Bell. Nestled in the heart of the Genesee Velley Hunt Country is a wooded area with a sea of baby blue. The lands where these flowers grow is private and you would need permission to ride on them. I myself plead to ride with friends to catch a glimpse of this rare site. Blue Bells peak in May and only last for a short time. There are a few mutants of white and pink that speckle the path and the big fat bubble bees hum as they visit each flower.
A few years back I hiked back with a camera to try and capture the beauty but it is never as good as the real thing. Those who have access to this trail are truly blessed. Click here for Photos.

I got a new pony! Say hi to Cotton! I can’t wait to have a long life together with her.
I also want to put a big thank you out to Genesee Valley Equine Clinic for all that they did for my late horse Hobbie. Thank you so much for the kindness you have shown us through sympathy cards and a donation to Cornell University in Hobbie’s name. I do hope that with future research and what was learned with Barbaro that future horses will stand a fighting chance with life threatening injuries. Bless you all.

YES! Warm weather and I’m itching to be back on the trails. Yesterday was the first day I got my horse out of the field and I didn’t have to fight the mud to do it. His hair is sheading out by the handful and I clipped his long goat hair under his chin. Sadly I’m not good with clippers and butchered him.
While I’m on the hunt for a new horse I’m boarding in the heart of the Genesee Valley Hunt country. There’s nothing but trails outside the barn door. I took off on the old RR bed going north and was surprised on how dry the trails are. Of course they weren’t dry enough to save my tack. A few puddle splashings and treks through clay mud got both myself and my tack covered. Time for me to switch to my synthetic saddle for easy cleaning.
If the weather holds up my next trek will be to the Leighigh Valley Trail system. I’ll be sure to bring a camera and show you the trail! If you want to join me check out the Trail Buddy page for my contact info.

Horse Shopping. Oh how I’m not liking this process. I venture to guess it’s worse than buying a used car.
First off I have to figure out what I want and what I need. Need: Safe Driving horse to fit current tack and vehicle. Want: Rare flashy totally unobtainable breeds that are out of my price range.
Now to filtering through all the ads in the paper, swap sheets, online and of course the “horse free to a good home.” After looking at all this over whelming information I have finally replied to 7 ads. Some already sold, some to big, some fine under saddle but won’t pull, some perfect in most every way but would involve more expense because they need custom tack. Then there are the horses that after viewing them you’d consider them a rescue case rather than a purchase.
I still am on the horse hunt and haven’t find the next perfect horse for my heart. Maybe soon I’ll find the right one. If not, it’ll just be me and Goliath on the trails this summer.

What terrible news. 2 Days after my last post I made the hard decision to put Hobbie down. I’ve just recently stopped crying and have finally been able to bring myself to write. Hobbie was an abandoned horse who found me only 3 years ago. In that time Hobbie dug a big hole in my heart and nestled right in. She was a fine pleasure harness horse, a bold trail horse, and a fairy tail mount for my wedding. I miss her dearly.

Hobbie and I at the 2006 Trail Trial.
I will miss the trail fun we’ve had.

I wanted to give you some background on my situation. When I first started this blog I had the intentions of going out at least once on the weekend for a trail ride and writing about my experience. On the same day of my 1st post, my Arabian mare Hobbie, decided to frolic in the field and in the process blew out her knee. Badly.
For the past 2 months I’ve spent more time and money with vets than I’d care to admit. Our case even made as far as the late Barbaro’s famous surgeon who gave me the news of she’ll never have an athletic life again and recommended putting her down.
Good news? With all the lovely snow, I am unable to get large barn doors open let alone plow out my trailer so in her stall she stays. So far she seems to be doing well and is able to walk and put weight on the leg. There’s hope! My mindset has now moved to dreading the warmer weather knowing I will have to lose a close friend to the fleeting possibility that she could be strong enough to be a broodmare. The idea of a little baby foal running around is too tempting and I’ve been boyfriend hunting for just the right Arabian stallion to match her pedigree. Babies! Yippy!
Better news for you readers. I still have a walking horse and as soon as the weather warms up Goliath and I will be out and hitting the trails for all of you!

Welcome to a new blog for horse lovers in the Greater Rochester area. I will be posting my experience with the horse friendly trails available for public use. I’ll be uncovering the best places to park your rig, times of day to ride, along with difficulty level of the trail. I urge people to respond with new trails or their trail experiences on horseback.
