Description:
Horse is asked to jump an obstacle no taller than a barrel laying on its side. Jump should be bordered on its side or of sufficient length to make it appealing to jump.
Options:
- Open to approach at a canter
- Lower divisions to approach at a walk or trot
How is it Judged?
- Willingness and balance of horse rewarded
- Rider should remain balanced over the course of the jump
- Rider should use loose rein to allow horse full use of their head and neck
- Rider should remain soft in the landing and return to center balance after completion of jump
- Western riders may place hand on horn to protect their body
- Horse and rider should complete this obstacle in a smooth and rhythmic manor
- SAFETY FIRST – Riders should pass if they or their horse is not confident
