Description:
Horses asked to back through an L shaped obstacle
Options:
- Obstacles may be poles on ground or larger like hay bales or barrels
- Lower divisions may be asked to back through only a straight portion without making a turn
- May be asked to walk in, halt, back out
How is it Judged?
- Horse should be straight
- Horse should not come in contact with the obstacle or step out of bounds
- Subtle cues rewarded
- Rider should be balanced
- Riders should look behind them before backing. Riders should return to a balanced position before proceeding to back.
- Reward careful and slow movements
- Horse should not show resistance (head toss, shake, opening mouth etc)
